The 5 Best Instagram Walls in East Vancouver

I’m proud to say East Vancouver is my hood. I didn’t grow up here but over the past couple of years I’ve found some of the coolest restaurants, cafes and bars in town — and I’m still exploring!

Last fall, my friend Jaimie and I took a couple hours to walk around and shoot headshots, but we quickly discovered that the area boasts some of the best, most colourful walls that is quite literally Instagram gold (check that yellow wall)! If you follow me on Instagram then you’ll know I prefer to wear shades, not colours, but that doesn’t mean I shy away from an awesome backdrop!

In the spirit of #SharingIsCaring, I wanted to let you in on the locations of my 5 favourite backdrops that you’ll find in and around the Drive in Vancouver.

La Casa Gelato, 1033 Venables (cross street: Glen Drive): If you’re familiar with Vancouver then this shouldn’t come as a surprise. Most people take pictures on the outside wall of the ice cream shop, but my favourite one is actually across the street on Union at Glen.

Bomber Brewing, 1488 Adanac Street (cross street: McLean Drive): This is one of my favourite brick walls and is always free for pictures, unlike other more popular ones. It’s not at Bomber Brewing but is across the street on the corner – you’ll see it right away! Bonus, once you’re done you can fill up a growler for a job well done.

1907 Triumph Street (cross street: Victoria Drive): This one we came upon by chance but I’m very thankful we did. The moment I laid eyes on this stunning peacock blue brick wall, I knew this spot had to make it on my list, even if for old times sake. I may not wear blue much anymore but it was and always will be my favourite colour!

1510 Powell Street (cross street: McLean Drive): You’ll notice this building right away as you’re walking down Powell Street. Along with awesome local breweries this street boasts some of the coolest buildings, including this canary yellow one! Pop around the corner into the parking lot for the best location.

1590 Powell Street (cross street: Woodland Drive): Just around the corner from the yellow building above, this purple wall is stunning. Out of all of them, this one was the hardest to find one undisturbed wall, without any windows, graffiti or posters but Jaimie and I made it work.
